We left Fes early for a long day on the road to Er Foud through the Lower and Middle Atlas Mountains on our way to the Sub Sahara Dessert.
These mountains are popular with Europeans for skiing in the winter and a get away from the heat in the summer. We stopped for coffee in a Swiss like village. They even have a carved lion like found in Switzerland. A short distance from town were Barberry Monkeys along the road waiting for handouts. A couple of men were racing horses along the road and offered to let some of the ladies go for a ride on them.
The drive thru the mountains was pretty and in places spectacular. One rest stop was at the Grand Canyon of Morocco along the Gheris River. The river provides a large area of green land for farmers who grow date palms, wheat, corn and oats. The houses along here were built outside of the greenway.
The hotel Kasbah Xaluca is very large and very luxurious with at least 2 pools, a spa and other amenities. We had dinner poolside.
