Last Week in Fort Meyers Beach

It’s been a busy week for a change.  The weather has been very windy until recently so we decided to get the kayak in the water for a bit.  When we got it dried out and tried to roll it up to store we discovered that the inflatable keel was full of water.  At least 6 different places where it attaches to the bottom were loose and leaking.  It took several days to get all the water out and try to seal up the leaks.  We will check it when we get to Key West.

We have dined out almost every evening this week.  We rode our bikes over to Tom and Carla’s beach front and had a picnic on the beach to watch the sun set.  It was a delightful evening.  The next day we played pickleball with Dave & Mickey, Katy & Lannie, Jim & Lisa and our doctor from home, Bob.  Of course that meant dinner at the club house.  The next night we walked over to Doc Ford’s with Jim, Lisa & Bob for a nice dinner and listened to a live band.
On Saturday we had a wonderful visit with my aunt and uncle who had just arrived from Minnesota after having gotten both of their vaccines. It had been several years since we had seen them so it was wonderful to catch up and reconnect.

The last day of February was moving day.  We are headed down to the keys with our first stop at the Jolly Roger in Marathon Key.

Living the Florida Life

We have been busy so the time has flown by but I can’t say we have done much differently than previously reported.  Lots of pickleball at the city park and with our friends at their courts.  John has played golf about once a week and I played 9 holes once with Katy.

We still ride our bikes to the pickleball courts and have ridden on the beach a couple of times.  Any time the traffic is lined up to get to the beach, we just ride our bikes wherever we need to go or stay home.  And as we get closer to Spring Break time, the traffic gets worse.

The first weekend in February we attended a car show in downtown Naples with Mickey and David and then met friends for dinner. We also celebrated Valentines Day with them at Seasons 52.  Recently we drove out to Captiva for drinks at the Mucky Duck and dinner at Key Lime Bistro.  It was a fun evening.

I spent some time on the beach one day while John golfed.  I continue to be fascinated with the pelicans, dolphins, and herons that visit us on the point.  Oh yes, we moved from site 9 back out to the point. The weather has been hot and humid or windy.  If it rains, its been at night.

OH MY, I almost forgot the most important news!  John and I were finally able to get our first COVID vaccine on Feb. 12.  We went to Winn Dixie grocery store in two different towns but we got it done and we will be able to get back to the same place for our second shot in March.

Vaccine Issues

It seems like we have spent most of our time trying to get an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine. Two mornings this week we got up at 5:40 am so we could be on the computer at 6 am to try to get an appoint at Publix. Lee county and two surrounding counties had a total of approximately 9,000 appointments available and 45 minutes later all were gone and we never got on.  Then at 9 am Lee county health opened their phone lines to get appointments for 3,000 shots and all were gone within 15 minutes.

On top of that, the Florida governor has placed requirements for residency to get the vaccine.  One has to prove they have lived in FL for 60 days and present two forms of proof of residence such as a driver’s license or ID, rental agreement, utility bill, bank statement, or parent’s addresses.  So even if we get an appointment, we can’t get two proofs of residence to show we have been in FL 60 days.

And on top of that, all our friends back in Sedalia already have their first shots!

The weather has been good so we have ridden our bikes a lot.  Last Saturday we rode out to Sanibel where Rick and Libet joined for a cruise around the island and a stop for lunch before riding back to the RV.  30 miles round trip.  This week we rode them on the beach one day.  The Pickleball courts have been super busy so not much play time; John has played golf twice this week; we got the kayak out and paddled around some, and John sold the fishing kayak on EBay.  Seems like we’re busy but we still have a lot of time to relax in the sun.
