We arrived in Casablanca early enough in the day yesterday that we had time to explore some of our surroundings. We are near the Old Town or Medina but we tried to stay along the edges so we wouldn't get too lost. We found a shopping mall on the harbor then walked past Rick's Cafe but it was closed. We decided to come back later to have a cocktail but it didn't open again until 7 pm and that is too late for us.
Today we walked some more through the Medina then found our way to Pidgin Park with a lovely fountain surrounded by it name sake - pidgins! Near by were a few large buildings which we did not have information for and then we walked to the one museum John agreed to visit. It was in a three story home and was filled with the collections of Abderrahman Slaoui, a successful businessman who loved to collect items such as pottery, glassware, jewelry and posters . A very interesting collection.
We strolled through a busy shopping area, found a cathedral being restored, and a Mosque from the 1300’s that had been restored. UNESCO has financed many restorations in Morocco including mosques, the Medina and other buildings.
We met our fellow travelers this evening before going to supper at an old fort. We were introduced to a dish called Tajine (Ta-hene) which is a slow cooked meal in a crock with a cone shaped lid. Very tasty.
