Gore Creek Trail is a paved biking and hiking path that runs from our campground down to Vail and out to Eagle for about a 12 mile ride that is almost all down hill. From Vail Village down to Eagle is pretty gradual and not a bad ride. From Vail Village up to about 4 miles from our end is up and down with a fairly gradual rise. But then from there to our campground it is a long and really steep road with very little relief between rises. Of course we had a nice ride down, we cruised around the village some, ate a nice German lunch with some good German beer and then came home.
Two years ago we had heavier bikes with a higher shift ratio than the ones we have now and that year I walked my bike most of the last two miles up the hill. Since we have the lighter bikes now, we talked ourselves into thinking that the ride back up the mountain from Vail would be a lot easier and we could make it without walking our bikes. NOT!
Oh my aching legs! It was all I could do to get up that hill but about a half mile out I gave up and walked! John is much stronger and rode his bike all the way. To say the least, I AM POOPED!
