Going Our Own Way

Yesterday was a nice quiet day with fishing and walking being the most exercise for us. John enjoyed the nearby Gros Ventre River and while not catching much, he did like the peace and quiet. I walked the full length of the campground and logged almost 3.5 miles. This is a huge park with over 350 campsites and five large group camps. The afternoon was also quiet and I built a nice hot fire for the evening.

Today, on the other hand, was full of fun and adventure for the both of us but with completely different activities. But before we left the campsite we had a surprise visit with a female moose! Neither one of us was paying attention to our surroundings as we prepared to load the Jeep for our busy day. As I was helping John put stuff in the back of the Jeep, I turned around and not 20 feet away was a female moose grazing on a nearby bush. She looked at us, then took another bite. A loud snap startled her and she took off running through the middle of the campground but not before a got a great picture!

John went on a guided fishing expedition with his friend Lanny. They hiked about three miles across a field that was crisscrossed by a small stream full of cut-throat trout. The only wild things they saw were red ants that Lanny accidentally sat on. Other than that they caught over 20 fish each and several of them were 13- 15" long.

Katy and I and her son, Chad, did the "spa" thing with massages then sat by a nice private pool for lunch. Chad, being the typical young adult, wanted to do something more exciting than sun bathing so Katy and I agreed to try Disc Golf on the mountain side. Katy and I played together and Chad and another young man we met on the course played their own discs. It was lots of fun and great exercise. The other young man was pretty professional at this game and tried to teach us how to toss that disc with little luck. The hardest part was locating the tossed disc when they went into the woods or creek! I laughed a LOT!

The five of us had a fun dinner at the Snake River Brew Pub before calling it a night.
