Rain Rain Go Away

We had a half day to spend in Florence before catching the train to San Gimignano but instead of getting to see the Bololi Gardens we spent the morning walking in pouring rain and trying to find a place to stay dry.  We did pop into a quaint church to listen to an organist practicing his music and then found a cafe for a cappuccino and pastry.  

We still had to walk back to the hotel in the rain to retrieve our luggage. We stopped at a wine shop to get 6 bottles to share at the Villa Iris and then catch our train.  We panicked when we couldn’t find our train on the board but 10 minutes before it was to leave we found an information booth and found that the schedule had changed, the platform was different and we had to change trains midway to San Gimignano.  But we got it done!

Upon arriving in Poggibonsi (the closest station to the Villa) we caught the only taxi and arrived at the Villa Iris just minutes after the rest of the group got there.

Mike and Diane had been here awhile but we met Pam and Bruce, Deb and Bob, and Judy and Craig in the driveway.  The Villa is magnificent, Mike and Diane’s friends are all wonderful people and we were glad to be in one place for the next week.
