The Confederation Bridge is a span of over 12.9 km or 8 miles across the Northumberland Strait to connect PEI and the mainland of Canada. It was completed in 1997 after 4 years under construction by over 5000 workers and is the longest in the world crossing ice-covered water. It is an engineering marvel. It was totally financed and built by private industry & is a toll bridge, and not a cheap one either. You pay a toll one way when leaving and for the RV we paid about $48.
We are spending two nights in Hilden, Nova Scotia north of Halifax so that a few in our group can ride the tidal bore that comes up the end of the Bay of Fundi.
But first we had dinner at the Hilden Fire Brigade, prepared and served by the volunteer firemen. Very nice!
