Howard Creek, Buck Mtn., Smith Creek Loop Trail

Shortly after we arrived at this park, I questioned a park ranger about the best trails for bike riding, explaining that we didn't want a mountain trail but it didn't have to be really easy either.  I think she totally misunderstood me!

Late this morning we were ready to take off on what we thought would be a short but pleasant ride in the forest. And it did start off that way with some hill climbing and some down hill cruising. But then we started climbing more and then it got really steep and rocky. When we hit the 'cut-off trail' we thought it would be an easier trail but we were wrong again. We both hiked our bikes about a mile and a half up a steeper grade before we got to Smith Creek. We think we made a 1000 foot climb!  Luckily it was a smoother down hill ride but I still rode my brakes all the way down this very narrow dirt path.

The ride was only 7 miles but it took us over 2 1/2 hours to make the trip. We were both drained of energy this afternoon. And I'll bet we go to bed early!
