These are not sharks as you think of them. Whale Sharks are in the shark family but they have no teeth Instead they feed on krill much like great whales, collecting their food in baleen. They are huge sharks, gray in color with white dots encircling their body which is over 15 feet long. Their heads reminded John and I of flat-head catfish just much, much larger. We took advantage of this tour where we were taken out into the bay where 7-8 of these whale shark reside. We donned our snorkeling gear and jumped into the water when our guides had spotted one of these gentle giants. We swam with a smaller one and later a larger one was located but he swam so deep that it was hard to locate him most of the time. Still this was an awesome experience!
We also boated among a pod (school?) of dolphin who were leisurely cruising the bay. Several of them got really close to the boat and the one diver with a camera. We are always awed by the grateful moves of this sea creature.
This afternoon was quiet and still since it rained and we were tired after our exciting morning. Tonight we had a festive dinner at La Terraza Restaurant. They have a really unique statue at their entrance. Like the hair?
