Parque National Los Glaciares

February 6

Wow!  What a day!
We flew from Ushuaia to El Calafate ( prounced “Cal-a-fa-Taylor”) on Wednesday and then rode in a van to El Chaten ( prounced “Cha-tan”) and about 10 minutes more to our hotel El Pilar where our group are the only guests.  Along the way we spotted numerous guanacos, a species of alpaca. We also stopped at a wayside inn where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid also spent some time. The route took us around two very large glacial lakes, Lago Viedma and Lago Argentine.
El Pilar  is a lovely boutique hotel with wood burning fire places and pot bellied stoves and is powered by hydroelectric power from the nearby glacier river.  Our drinking water also comes from the glacial river.
