We cruised all night down the Gulf of Suez and around the tip of the Sinai Peninsula to a resort town called Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Yes we are still in Egypt but this town is on the Red Sea where the Gulf of Aqaba empties into it. The waters are as warm as the air, there are sandy beaches and coral reefs. In fact, the red coral reefs are how the Red Sea got its name.
Shortly after lunch the bus took us to snorkeling boats and we headed up the coast about 25 minutes while looking at the huge beach side resorts that appear to be empty. Unfortunately, a year ago in Oct. a passenger jet from Sharm was shot down over Egypt. Since then people are afraid to travel to this lovely city.
But that has not stopped us. The snorkeling was wonderful with such a profusion of fish and coral. The fish are neon blue, rainbow colors, stripped yellow and blue, bright yellow, and many colors inbetween. The coral was pink, purple, blue, green and red, with so many different shapes and sizes. It was true lay amazing!
We dived a second spot then headed back to the ship. It was a lovely adventure with no pictures to show since we don't have an underwater camera.
