Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park

I guess I should have been collecting National Park coins or stamps since we have been visiting a lot of them on our adventures.  This will be the 3rd park this year.

We only had to drive 40 miles today as we didn’t realize the park was so close to where we were camped in Manistee.  Shortly after lunch we drove to the visitor’s center, got some information about the hiking and biking trails and then took a 4.7 mile hike through the meadows and pine-hardwood forests around Otter Lake.

As are most National Parks, this one covers a huge amount of territory.  We had to drive 12 miles just to get to the visitor’s center from our campground.  If we want to ride our bikes on any of the biking trails we will have to put them on the Jeep and drive to the trail heads. The section of the park where the actual sand dunes are located will be another 8 miles from the visitor’s center and the park stretches another 15-20 past the dunes.

We did get to enjoy a nice campfire this evening.
